Whitecap – 58’ Ocean Alexander

The decision to do one upgrade sometimes demands planning another. In the case of Whitecap, fuel tanks are located outboard of the engines, so the obvious time to replace them was as older engines were to be removed. To facilitate engine removal, the galley was dismantled to access the engine room via the salon sole.

With the boat out of the water, the hull was stripped and re-antifouled. Propellers were sent out for re-pitching. Cutless bearings were replaced as well as several thru hulls and valves. The bow thruster was replaced, and a new stern thruster unit was installed.

Other upgrades bundled into this maintenance included MMC CruiseCommand engine controls, fabricated supports for the stern tie reel, canvas covers fabricated and installed, application of Awlwood to caprails and house trim, blue stripes painted topside, hull waxing, replacement of blackwater hoses, servicing of blackwater pumps and the installation of a Spectra Newport 700c watermaker.

Having completed everything above in 2022, the cruising in 2023 should be an absolute pleasure.
